Synopsis

In this segment on CBS46 Atlanta Plugged In, Matt Zemon, author of “Psychedelics for Everyone,” discussed his new book, which serves as a beginner’s guide to using psychedelic medicine for mental health issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, PTSD, and for expanding consciousness. Matt shared the personal journey that inspired his writing, recounting a guided psilocybin experience that allowed him to reconnect with his deceased mother in a profoundly healing way.

Matt talked about the legality of ketamine across all 50 states, noting its off-label use for depression and anxiety, with impressive results from a recent study involving 1200 patients. He also mentioned that MDMA and psilocybin have received FDA breakthrough therapy designations and are expected to become federally legal within the next two to three years.

In discussing local developments, Matt pointed out that Atlanta council members are considering a resolution to decriminalize psychedelics, making enforcement a low priority. This is part of a broader trend of decriminalization efforts in various cities and states.

While Matt’s book title, “Psychedelics for Everyone,” is provocative, he clarified that he doesn’t suggest everyone should take psychedelics, but rather that everyone should be informed about their potential benefits and the ongoing psychedelic renaissance. He believes this movement could bring the most significant change in mental health treatment since the advent of antidepressants 50 years ago.
